Induction Bent

Inductaflex provided the machine that bends 460 grade material using induction bent technology for this project.

Al Wasl Plaza, the open space at Expo 2020 Dubai’s center, blends stunning design and cutting-edge technology with a complex domed trellis. This trellis features a massive immersive projection experience.

The plaza occupies the heart of the 4.38-square-kilometer site and impresses millions of visitors from around the globe.

Al Wasl means “connection” in Arabic and is also Dubai’s historic name. This reflects the city’s aim to unite people at the Expo and highlights the plaza’s central location.

The plaza’s dome reaches 65 meters high and draws inspiration from the Expo 2020 Dubai logo. It serves as a 360-degree projection surface.

Inductaflex provided the machine that bends 460 grade material using induction bent technology for this project. The company met strict ovality tolerance requirements for the parts.

Because the dome is translucent, projections show clearly both inside and outside the plaza.

Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture designed this landmark.
